What type of grass have they in the US? Pitch remarkably resilient.

I've noticed during all the games I have watched so far that not a single big divit of turf has been lifted out of any pitch. Players sliding about and no marks left behind either? Is the grass hard? Compacted? I know some players and coaches have been complaining about some of the pitches.
